Whole Woman Fitness: Promoting Holistic Wellness and Preventative Care

Whole Woman Fitness: Empowering Women Through Holistic Wellness

In a world where wellness often overlooks the unique needs of women, Whole Woman Fitness stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment. Founded by Neticia Waldron, this innovative wellness program prioritizes the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health of women. By combining engaging fitness classes with education, communication, and accountability, Whole Woman Fitness aims to help participants manage and prevent chronic health conditions while fostering a strong sense of community.

A Personal Journey to Wellness

Neticia Waldron isn’t just a fitness instructor; she’s a passionate advocate for women’s health. With over a decade of experience as a healthcare administrator at Endeavor Health, Waldron’s career has been fueled by a personal connection to chronic illness. She explains, “When I was 17, my grandmother died of a massive heart attack two days shy of her 60th birthday.” This experience, exacerbated by a lack of effective grieving practices in Black families, deeply influenced her approach to health care.

Recognizing the importance of preventive care, Waldron initiated her journey into fitness. She began teaching classes in 2021 during the pandemic, providing a safe space for women to develop coping skills while navigating the uncertainties of a global crisis. “I designed the program around what I needed,” she recalls. This understanding has become the cornerstone of Whole Woman Fitness, where the focus is on creating a supportive environment for women to thrive.

Empowerment Through Community

At the heart of Whole Woman Fitness lies the belief that empowering one woman can have a ripple effect within her family. “If you empower women, ultimately you impact the whole family,” Waldron states. The classes are structured to cater to women of all ages, with participants ranging from young children to women in their 60s. Mothers bring their kids and even teenagers join in before school, fostering an environment where healthy habits are encouraged from a young age.

Whole Woman Fitness recently expanded its reach by opening a dedicated facility at 2308 Main St., complete with four certified instructors who are committed to the program’s mission. The variety of classes offered includes HIIT, Zumba, and step aerobics, each designed to be inclusive and accessible to all women.

Holistic Approach to Health

Whole Woman Fitness is not just about physical exercise; it takes a holistic approach to wellness. Each class begins with positive affirmations, encouraging participants to connect with their self-worth and aspirations. The emphasis on mental health is evident in the supportive online community that allows women to check in on each other outside of class. This sense of camaraderie ensures that participants not only work on their fitness but also have the support they need to manage their emotions and well-being.

Waldron also highlights the importance of building strength to fend off cognitive impairments like Alzheimer’s, as well as the focus on nutritional education. “We don’t want to work out of chronic illness but give people the tools to actually prevent them,” she asserts.

Creating a Safe Space for Women

One of the distinctive features of Whole Woman Fitness is its commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for women. “It’s a safe space for everyone to come and be themselves,” Waldron emphasizes. The newly designed facility offers areas for stretching, a lounge, retail space, and plans for additional amenities such as a sauna and smoothie bar.

Moreover, the program is committed to supporting local businesses by featuring local products, such as fresh-pressed juices, and collaborating with health professionals to provide various wellness services.

Commitment to Health Equity

Beyond fitness classes, Waldron is addressing broader health equity issues in the community. She is partnering with the City of Evanston on a program called Pathways to Wellness, which utilizes remote patient monitoring and other interventions to help manage chronic illnesses. This initiative aims to provide affordable healthcare solutions to marginalized communities, further solidifying Whole Woman Fitness as a resource for comprehensive wellness.
